>My phone. The mobile one. I can just about get it to make and take calls and texts, but that’s it at the moment. The key-pad control thing in the middle has stopped working up, down and select. That means a run out at lunchtime to the Three shop in Meadowhall and the possibility of having to buy a cheap, temporary phone if they keep it. The phone’s less than a year old, so it should be under guarantee, it’s whether the staff in the Three shop acknowledge that it’s one of theirs that’s the issue (and my sister will know exactly what I mean when I say that). Of course, the big 3 on the front should be heap big clue.
So that’s my memory stick that’s given up the ghost this week (it was only a 128mb one, but it had all of my critical data backed up on it), a slat in my Venetian blind trashed by Holly (who for some reason thinks she can crawl through the slats …), and now my phone. I had my memory stick replaced with a 2gb one immediately and was able to copy everything over, I think I’m going to have to do some bendy work on the Venetian blind, and the phone … well, I’ll know after I’ve been to the shop.
It’s deadline day on the magazine. So far I have in 6 out of 14 items with 4 requested extensions. Not bad, but I wonder how many will be here by the end of the day. I’m supposed to be in production for the next 4 weeks … but my designer/printer just emailed me to say he’s on holiday for 2 of them from next Sunday …
I’m feeling very smug and pleased with myself today. I’ve repaid a couple of debts and I’ve also managed to transfer over some of that “just in case” money to a savings pot, you know, that extra budgeted money I’m allowed for things like pets, home & garden, holidays & leisure, ad hoc car stuff, clothes, books/CDs/DVDs/games and so on. I’ve been budgeting for these things every month for a year (apart from the car stuff, which has been taking me by surprise in massive chunks and so depleting my cash reserves), but as I’ve rarely used them, I’ve just let the figures be swallowed back up by the current account.
Today, though, for the first time ever, I’ve transferred what I haven’t spent across. The theory is, next time a big, unexpected bill comes in, there’s money there to cover it. I also have a regular savings account (my mini cash isa that I’ve been paying a miniscule £10 a month into – it soon builds up), and I have a “save the change” account where my bank automatically puts odd pence when I make a card payment that isn’t to a round pound. If ever any of them reach a healthy balance, I can send another lump sum to my debt management plan on top of what I pay each month.
And the best thing? There’s still money in my account. I even already drew out what I need for the month for shopping and pocket money.
I’ve had a good feeling all week but didn’t know why, maybe this was it. It’s been a bad week astrologically, and I’m hoping my 3 little things going wrong will be my share. However, I’m going into the weekend feeling positive, in control and happy.
On the way home tonight I’m going to do my weekly shopping. Tomorrow I’ll do chores – washing, baking (violet cupcakes, a trifle), ironing, batch cooking (chili con carne), etc. Tomorrow evening I’m out with a great bunch of mates. Sunday morning I go walking around Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire. Sunday afternoon I’m visiting Mr Straw in Worksop. The blog is set to publish my 2 commentaries with pictures from last weekend. Sunday evening I rest.
Have a great weekend.
